  • WW1 propeller mystery

My son (aged 8 at the time) used his savings to buy a wooden propeller blade online during the pandemic, and we are now trying to identify it.
It is 141 cm long (55.5 inches) and has a metal cap on the hub end.
We cannot find a serial number or a makers mark.
One side is carved: it has RFC and 1916 carved into it, and a pattern of thistles.

Please can any one help us identify what kind of plane it came from and where it was made? We have looked in books but can’t find anything matching the length and date which looks the right shape.
    Many thanks

It's nearly impossible to determine an engine/aircraft model from the blade alone. All of the identifying information has been lost with the hub, and there are so many similar shapes and sizes of the blades themselves that all you can do is guess.

It looks like a left hand thread, which would make it a little more likely to have come from a pusher than a tractor configuration in that era.
