  • Flottorp Modern Propeller

I have a propeller that I salvaged from a dumpster,I'm gonna guess 28 years ago,and I'm interested in learning all I can about it's origional use, probable age and value.
I would really appericate it if someone could help.

    Identification marks include;
    18919.L
    Des.36-A-36
    Max.RPM 2650
    H.P. 65
The center hole is 1 7/8"
    There are 6 bolt holes
    It is 72 inches long

Has two Flottorp,Grand Rapids,Michigan insignias, one on each blade.
The tips of the blades and the leading edges are metal tipped.
Finish appears to be origional untouched.
    Glue joints are sound .
There are no cracks or dings in/on either blade.
Any and all help or guidence is appreciated

    Flottorp Identification

    David.
You have a pretty rare Flottorp prop there. Flottorp quit using the 36 model designation in the late 30's early 40's. They changed to a more conventional numbering system that better described the propeller. Meaning the model number designated the diameter. The Model 36 propellers were all 72" diameter. The 36A depending on pitch and bolt circle drilled were used on 35hp through 90hp engines. Mostly there was an identifying letter after the 36A36 that help identify the engine it was used on. If this is an ealier prop then the "L" after the serial number may indicate Lycoming, but I am just guessing on that. Information is scarce on Flottorp before WW2.
I would love to have you post pictures so everyone could get a good look at your prop.

      Flottorp Propeller

David was having problems posting these pictures of his antique Flottorp prop so I gave it a try. You can see it is still in its original finish and looks good. (At least to me - but I am partial). The DES 36A36 props were a different shape than the more modern ones. The trailing edge is quite straight where as the rest of the Flottorp props hada curve to the trailing and leading edges.
Thanks David for sending the pictures

        re;Flottorp Propellers

        bob,

I can't begin to thank you enough for your help, pictures look great.

How can I go about determing an approximate value and what would be the best way to sell the prop for the best price?

I'm not a collector of these items,so I'd like to see some one have it and enjoy it that would appericate it for what it is.

I do check this forum each day, though I haven't been signing in,but I will from now on.

        Thanks again
        Dave

I'd just sell it on eBay. You get the largest viewing group possible and final bid prices are usually fairly realistic.
