    Hispano prop

    Hi there,

    Was looking for some help identifying more about this propeller. As far as I'm aware its from a WWI S.E.5a with a 200HP Hispano-Suiza engine. Can anyone tell me what all the other letters and numbers mean? Maybe the cost too?

    Here's whats written on it:

    Hispano suiza 3/4
    Dia2514
    P2850
    G972
    N48
    AB8080lh
    200hp
    1865

    Ps.is the front original?

    Hi,

    If you want more, you have to post all the pics with markings. The only I can guess are on the freezer... Perhaps an AEG Arctis?

          Hi,

          image_12133.jpg: Airworthy stamps applied during manufacturing of the prop. The alphanumeric under "AID" are the controller "number". I think Bob Gardner knew some of them by their names and/or where they worked, but I don't remember if he wrote about those ones (5 and 801) in his books.

          image_12134.jpg: A "deco" plate fitted to the prop. May be discarded.

          image_12135.jpg: A quite complete view of a face of the hub. Is it what is under the deco plate? Or the opposite side? Anyway, I don't know what is the number 1805.

          image_12136.jpg: Partial view of one of the side of the hub. DIA[METER] 2514 is the length in millimeters. P[ITCH] 2850 is the pitch in millimeters.

          image_12137.jpg: Same view as 12133.

          image_12138.jpg: A[IR] B[OARD] 8080 L[EFT]H[ANDED]: "Inventor" of the design, design number and direction of rotation. 200 H[ORSE] P[OWER] : engine power. HISPANO SUIZA 3/4: brand of the engine and value of the gear ratio.

          image_12139.jpg: G 972 N 48: The 48th prop made in the batch 972. It is not clear if all batch numbers could be used for dating. If true, it could "tell" that the prop was made in the 20'.

          From Bob Gardner book part 1 page 59, the design 8080 with 2.514 meters length was made for SE5A, SE5 and Sopwith Dolphin.
