  • Metal sheathing and fabric

I have a huge Hawker Horsley prop from 1921.
At some point in its history, it has had the fabric covering removed, and I want to replace this with Irish Linen. It has long been on the list to properly restore.
My question is this, it also has brass sheathing on the tips.
Does anybody know if the fabric covering would have gone over the top of ths sheathing, or would it be cut along the join?
    May thanks.

    Hi,

All the props with fabric and sheathing I have seen have the fabric UNDER the sheathing: First, the fabric is applied all around the blade, then the sheathing is attached to the leading edge.

So, to replace the fabric, you have two remove the sheathing... Not easy, I supposed!

      Many thanks,
Well I won't be removing the sheathing, it is all lead filled. I hink I will have to carefully cut it round the edge.
It won't be flying, so I'm sure it is not desperate.
      Thanks for the reply.
