  • Enquiry about an unused British Propellor

    I am a Rolls-Royce & Bentley Specialist, one of my clients has a propeller that has been in his garage for some 30 years.

    I am attaching pictures and wonder if you can tell me anything about it at all. It is 6 feet long, mahogany, unused.

    Welcome to our forum.

    I regret that I can't tell you what sort of prop it is except that it is the typical shape of a 1930's-1950's light aircraft and the correct sort of length. Similar props were used with Gipsy engines on DH Moths, although these were often around 6' 4". However, the Auster had a prop of exactly six feet, so this is a contender for your prop. I should add that yours is an unflown example because it has no bolt holes drilled in the hub.

        'Morning John,

        Is Blackpool earlier than Doncaster, where I live? The first aviation meeting in England was held at Doncaster 15-23 October 1909. Blackpool was 18 October to 25 October 1909. Both were commercial in the sense that Farman et al were advertising their aeroplanes and flying-schools and charging people for a flight.

        And what of Farnborough for Cody and his kites that were demonstrated to the Army. And Hendon?
