  • Curtiss JN-4 propeller identification?

I'm doing a little research for my father-in-law and I hope you can help me. He has a section of propeller (the hub and about 12 inches on both sides) that belonged to his father. His father was stationed as a mechanic at Payne Field in West Point, Mississippi in 1918. Payne Field used 125 Curtiss JN-4's to train about 1500 pilots between May 1918 and March 1920. Therefore, I'm going to make the assumption that this propeller is probably off of a JN-4. The information on the prop reads, Right Hand - Dia 8'8" x 5' 8", R178, A. J. Edmonds, 4773, CALTO 12, A.I.D. C2. It appears to be made of walnut. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

The size and pitch are consistent with a JN4 prop, but could also fit many other types. Go to this link to measure the hub then go to the table to see what engine it went on and post back.
