  • help with identification

I have a 7foot modern wooden propellar with S&S Winnipeg sticker on it. It has 8 holes and from what I can read on it :
    HP 140
    RPM 2400
    DIA 78" ??
    PIT 54.3
Can anyone offer insight as to which airplane this might be from.

I've never been able to locate a list of S&S propellers, although the propellers themselves are quite common, presumably as a result of large production numbers followed by their obsolescence and then availability on the surplus market. Most of the ones that I have seen have never been mounted and many are in remarkably good condition.

The absence of a drawing number (or "design number) would make positive identification even more difficult. The 140 HP engine might narrow it down a bit, and you could search on this forum for other S&S propellers that may match those specifications. The "DIA 78" refers to its diameter (length) so that can be confirmed by simply measuring it from tip to tip. The "54.3" refers to its pitch in inches.
