  • WWI Propeller with clock ?

    Hi

    I would like to elcome myself to your forum. I am a newbie who has acquired recently this item. The site is a welath of information and I hope someone may be able to help me.

    I have attached two images of a propeller with a clock in the middle. I am new to the forum and aviation. What do people think? Is it original? Is it WWI? Anyone know what plane it is from?

    It has a number of markings and numbers on it.

    Any info appreciated

    Odds are that it is real and likely WW1 "era". I can't read the numbers, but they may very well identify the plane or planes that would have used it.

        Unfortunately, it doesn't. I can not find any variation of that number in the reference I have, which includes about 350 to 400 drawing numbers.

            Hello Chippy,

            These two numbers;
            DZ 971
            P Z170
            probably indicate a diameter of 2971mm and a pitch of 3170mm, in which case the prop was designed by the Royal Aircraft Factory, drg no T6296, and fitted to the RE8 recce aircraft. The same drg no was used on the RE7 and BE12 aircraft but with the RAF 4A engine of 140hp, whereas the RE8 also used the 150hp version, and this is the version that you have.

            With kind regards,

            Bob

              Many thanks for your wonderfully informative reply.

              Absolutly fascinating to now read about this plane and it's role in the war effort.
