It also has a # 97961 What aircraft might of been used on?
It was in my grandmother attic who had a farm on Wright Patterson AFB.

    Jim,

Levasseur was a noted French prop maker during WW1. If you can find a serie number on the hub we can identify it for you.

    With kind regards,

      Hi Jim,

Levasseur has made props from before WW1 until 40' at least. Yours is probably from around WW1 according to its varnish colour.

If you post clear close up pictures of the four sides of the hub it will be probably possible to know more about it.

      PM

        Number on Hub

Having trouble working with Threads. You may have received this message or maybe not, so sending it again.

Two sets of Number or markings:
Top: 1, square underline, a line square below, square two underlines & 3
Bottom: 19440 or 194square0. Trouble reading the 4 digit.

Levassereur props used a 3 digit series number between 400 and 600. Can you find that anyhere? It may be preceeded by "Ser" or "Serie".

It's starting to make more sense. The Levasseur Series 581 is listed for use on the Morane XXVII and the "150 Gn" refers to its Gnome 150 hp engine, although I don't know what the "Sur" after it means.

                Thanks

I'll do some research on the plane and the engine. I have no idea how the Prop got into my grandmothers attic unless the Air Force had a trainer or something at the base in Fairfield which is outside of Dayton, OH.

                It is interesting.

                Thanks Again.

                Jim

                  Hi,

"Sur" is probably for Suralésé (French for overbored) as Levasseur serial 581 was for Morane XXVII and XXIX which were variants for Morane AI (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morane-Saulnier_AI ) and both fitted with the Gnome 9N engine ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnome_Monosoupape ) : Gnome 9N is a Monosoupape with 115mm bore vs 110mm for Gnome 9 and 7.

It seems that some Morane were purchased by the American Expeditionary Force as pursuit trainers. Perhaps they took home some !

@ jim Freeders : could you make some pictures of the 3 small squares on one of the flat size of the hub and of the one which is on one side for my database ?

                  Regards,

                    Jim,

Can you also post a picture of the entire prop?

Why has this thread got a thumbs down sign? I think its been there since the first post. Can you remove it?

I suspect it was an accident by the OP. It's easy for any mod to change. Just go to the original post, clidk edit, and in the options at the bottom of the page click "no icon".

I've made that mistake by accidentally clicking on one of those radio buttons, because then you have to click a different button to remove it.

                              re Morane Saulnier AI Propeller

                              Hi Jim,
I have an original Morane AI that I need a prop for. If you ever consider selling your prop I would be very interested!. Failing that would it be possible to visit and redraw it so that i can create a new one? Many thanks best wishes Pat
