  • Wooden propeller identification

Hello all, I recently found a wooden propeller an auto show. I would appreciate if someone might be able to give me some information on the type of aircraft that it might have been used on.

The embossed hub states the following

    DRG D.H.5220/P/26.
    Gipsy .Major
    D6 4 P4 7.
    A0019.

Looking forward to hearing from someone regarding the above.

    Regards to all

    Hi Graham,

The de Havilland 5220 series of props were used with the Gypsy engine on all the Moth type of aircraft from the 1920's to post WW1; the Gypsy Moth, the Tiger Moth etc. The P variants were late war and were used on the last of the Tiger Moths and the Auster AOP aircraft. I don't know what aircraft the P/26 was used on. The P/25 was used on the Auster.

The letters D and P indicate diameter and pitch at 6'4" and 4'7"

    With regards,

Well that was a very fast and interesting reply, so thank you for passing on all that you know.

I just am facinated with with anything that tells a story from our aviation past.

This is a very good forum and have found myself dipping in and out.

      Thank you again
