  • DARRACO Rhone 110HP PROP

    Hi,

I've been trying to identify and old propeller we found in my late grandfather's garage. It's in very good condition with the exception of a piece around 2" x 8" which is missing from the trailing edge of one tip.

It's marked "DARRACO Motor Eng Co London"the only thing I can find out about them is that they were making cars in 1904. Maybe they were told to make propellers during The Great War?
    It's also marked "Rhone 110HP" engine maybe from a DH5 or a 9C.

I have some pic if any wants me to email them

I'd be most interested to hear what you think.

    Dear Alec,

Thank you for your e-mail to me and also for your question to this forum.

Your prop is from a DH5, marked on the prop as a DE H5. This is a nice example of a stamping by Darracq. May I use it in the next update of my book on props? Darracq were roped into making props in WW1. Could you please display your photos here, for the benefit of everyone else?

Is the drg no, diameter and pitch stamped somewhere else on the prop? It would be nice to know the drg no for my records. Are there any decals on the blades?

The prop is worth around 800 gbp if offered at auction in England.

    With regards,

    Bob

Bob,.... and of cause you may use it for your book. I didn't realise my photography skills were that good.

Is there a specialist auction I should use , or are any of the forum members interested in owning this good example?

There are probably some forum members interested, including me I suppose, but it would depend on where you're located and what the prop looks like. Can you send a photo?

I'm in Durham in the North East of Englnad. I Emailed Bob some pictures. I'm not sure how to put them on this site. If anyone wants to see pictures email me at amanchester@btinternet.com and I'll send them.

I'm not a wooden propeller enthusiast and I'd rather it belonged to someone who was, someone who would appreciate it.
