  • Skyfox Gazelle Propeller torque settings

    Hi there,
we are the proud owners of a Skyfox Gazelle with a 2 blade Allsize Aviation 68 x 48 inch wooden propeller - on the front of a Rotax 912A engine.
Does anyone know the bolt torque settings for this propeller or can anyone guide us to where this information lives please? We can't find it anywhere on the google oracle
    cheers

    Hi lipston,

Welcome to the Forum! Are you here in Australia? My first post here was in relation to a Skyfox propeller. I was at my friend Ollie Walker's house and we were trying to work out the correct diameter and pitch for a propeller to suit his Skyfox, although Ollie's requirements are quite different to yours, because his is a tail dragger and has an Aeropower engine. I am aware that your version, the Gazelle has a tricycle undercarriage. For this reason most Gazelle propellers are two bladed, because they help to increase ground clearance, although I note that you have a two bladed propeller.

I happen to know the engineer who helped to set the Rotax company up, so he might know, but not necessarily, because he is an engine builder, not a specialist in propellers. If I don't have any luck with the engineer, Rotax themselves might be able to tell you, although the best people to ask would be Allsize Aviation, if they still exist. I remember Ollie was having trouble finding out about propellers because the company who built his does not exist any more.

    Regards,

    David.

Hi David, thanks for your help! Yes, we are near Kiama in NSW.
We also have the same problem as your friend; Allsize Aviation, who made the prop no longer exist.
We did however find Coastal Aviation Pty Ltd in Queensland, who were able to send us the page from the maintenance manual for our bird that had the specs we need. They also carry spare parts for Skyfox Gazelles. They can be contacted on:
      Tel: + 61 7 54488991 Fx: + 61 7 54488998
So she is all ready to fly once again! Just need to wait for the weather to sort itself out now...... that's flying!
      cheers and thanks again.

        Hi,

Thanks for letting me know! Kiama is a very beautiful part of NSW. Thank you very much for the contact for Skyfox parts. I will let Ollie know, although lately he has been talking about selling it. I know what you mean about flying weather. Here in Canberra it is not as wet as people think, but we have more than our fair share of cold, frosty, foggy and windy days by Australian standards. It can be quite wet there in Kiama can't it?

        Regards,

        David.
