  • Propeller ID

    Hi All,

Found another prop in my travels today - Ive got some pictures but I have just realised Ive left my USB cable at work - I moght drive over tonight and see if my security card works.

Here is the info off the hub hopefully this will be enought to ID it and for the experts to advised how rare it might be.

    SEAGULL . V

    .PEGASUS VI

    FS 862F

    NOV 1912

    OTHER SIDE

    KH ?? EHER

    DO OFT

    ??? 22 938

THE PROP MEASURES 3045MM LONG (I FORGOT TO MEASURE THE HUB)

I CANT TELL HOW MANY HOLES THE HUB HAS - THERE IS A METAL PLATE OVER IT - I DONT KNOW IF IT IS ORIGINAL TO THE PROP

THE WRITING WAS VERY HARD TO READ AND I MAY GOT SOME NUMBERS/LETTERS WRONG

THE PROP DOES HAVE BRASS ON THE LEADING EDGES.

ITS A PITY IT HAS BEEN MESSED WITH BUT WITH ALLOT OF WORK i COULD FAKE A FINISH ON IT.

    Kind Regards,

    Adrian.

    Hello Adrian,

Your prop is probably dated Nov 1942. Its from a Supermarine Seagull, a variant of the Supermarine Walrus, that was used as a spotter by the RAN and as ASR by the RAF and RAAF. The aircraft was a biplane seaplane with a pusher Pegasus VI engine.

    With kind regards,

      Hi Bob,

Thanks for the info - I did not get the prop, it went for big money considering its condition.($2155 Aus)

The buyer probably did me a favour, I really dont have anywhere to put it.

I can post pictures if you want. Thanks Again.

      Regards,

      Adrian
