This wooden prop is mounted on the wall of the Bedford Club, in Bedford, Eastern Cape, South Africa. I am unable to dismount it and search for any serial numbers. Please help identify it.

Unfortunately, that's virtually impossible. There were thousands of different designs, many of which appear virtually identical but had distinctly different applications.

All you can tell from the photo is that it has a right hand rotation and an 8 hole hub.

It has hints about it of a Watts design from the 1930's; an English maker who made wooden props from many British civil and military aircraft. Are there any data stamped on the hub? There might also be a small brass data plate screwed to a blade root. Even four screw holes about the size of a matchbox in that area would help confirm it as a Watts design.

The eight bolt holes suggest a military aircraft. What does the Bedford Club know about it. Does the club have minute books from the 1930's and 1940's?

Please measure the length from tip to tip and tell us.

      With kind regards,

      Bob
