  • Assistance with Identification Appreciated

I am attaching pictures of a 72 inch wooden propeller which I would like to know more about, if anybody has any input based on the limited markings/info available. It was my late father's, and I can remember him having it for all of my life (I'm 47).

The only markings that I've seen at all are the numbers located on one side of the hub. It looks to be perhaps an old Sensenich?

Any information which could be provided regarding possible identification or a range of value would be very appreciated.

It could be almost anything from any one of a number of different manufacturers, Sensenich being just one of them. (see below)

There should be a design number stamped on the side of the hub. Sometimes when those missing it indicates that the prop was rejected during a final phase of manufacturing, although in your case the prop certainly appears to have been mounted. So there "should" be identifying numbers stamped on the hub or sometimes on the blade.

To get an idea of how many aircraft could have used this sized propeller, see all of the Sensenich design numbers that being with "72" on this list. Other manufacturers could have produced a number of other models fitting similar aircraft and engines.

Thank you for the information. I'm not finding any additional markings, anywhere. It may have had a label or decal at some point in its life, but there's no trace of anything on it. I've left every bit of dust and cobweb or two on it as I found it in the midst of a building full of "stuff". I snapped pics of both sides of the hub, in case somebody notices an identifier that I've missed.

It'll make a sharp piece for somebody, as I'm most likely going to need to offer it for sale. I'm mulling over posting under the sell section here, or perhaps listing on ebay.

I think its exact usage will remain a mystery, but I'd just keep it the way it is (don't try to make it look better) and expect it to hold or increase its value over the years. Original condition and evidence of mounting ("witness marks" on the hub, where the pressure plate indented the wood) are definite plus factors in valuation.
