  • Identity of GMAD48 Wooden Propeller

    Hi,
My father would very much like to find out where his wooden propeller it comes from. He has told me its details:
    overall length - 1885mm /6' 2 3/8"
number of holes in hub - 6
    overall hub diameter - 171.45mm / 6 3/4"
    Inner hub hole diameter - 60.33mm / 2 3/8"
    Hub bolt hole diameter - 11.11mm / 7/16"

Inscription on the hub is: GMAD48
My father thinks that it comes from a Gypsy Major aeroplane. Could anyone identify this propeller??
    Thanks

I don't have a reference to that design number. Is it a left hand rotation? I think most of the Gypsy props were left hand. Some examples of similar props are seen at http://www.warbirdsite.com/museumprops.html.

      Hi Dave,
I have just spoken to him and he says yes it is left hand. I will get him to take a photo of it to show you. Do you have any idea of how much these propellers are worth?
      Cheers

It's hard to estimate its value without knowing what it was used for and what kind of condition it's in, but I've seen most Gypsy-like props in good or excellent condition sell on eBay for anywhere from about $400 to almost $1000. It's an unpredictable market.

In fact here's a similar one that just recently sold on eBay.
