    Whilst researching Renzo's German CV propeller in the Handbook on Propeller Construction published by the British Ministry of Munitions (AB275/3936) dating from late 1917 I came across this sentence:

    The use of "French Polish" or any other form of shellac is forbidden.

    I have read elsewhere that shellac was used by the British as a 'size' to fill grain on internal parts of aircraft such as ribs, formers and stringers which was then coated with a waterproof varnish.
