  • BANKS prop

I was given an old badly damaged wood prop and was wondering what it might have been used on. Aircraft, has 4 laminates, 4 bolt holes plus slightly larger hole in center, 76 inches tip to tip and about 8 1/2 inches across blade at widest part, brass plated tips and leading edge with copper screws soldered over heads and all seams. It is stamped BANKS (something) TEXAS. Design 188, Serial 20

Banks Maxwell made primarily airboat propellers, which is what yours probably is. There were no standard aircraft propeller hubs that used only 4 holes.

It might be hard to find any original ones anywhere, but I'd check with Jerry at Nostalgic Reflections. If he doesn't have them he can custom make them if you want.
