  • Sopwith Propeller Hub

    Hello,
    I have inherited the hub of a Sopwith Scout and would be grateful if anyone has information on it and advice on whether it has any value. The markings are as follows;
    3999 101
    D2600
    GUN TIMING
    P2200
    L13727

    LP1020A
    80 HP LE RHONE RH
    SOPWITH SCOUT
    SHORT NOSE

    Many thanks for your help
    Lisa

    It's clear that it was made for the Scout, using an 80 hp LeRhone engine. Ordinarily remnant hubs are worth a few hundred dollars, but prices do vary considerably.

        Lisa,

        Your data translates as follows;

        D2600 Diameter of the prop, 2600mm
        GUN TIMING a mark to synchronise the gun which fired through the arc of the propeller
        P2200 the pitch of the propeller in mm
        L13727 The Lang Propeller Co. serial number

        LP1020A The Lang Propeller drawing number
        80 HP LE RHONE RH the French rotary engine
        SOPWITH SCOUT The Scout aircraft made for the Royal Navy, commonly called the Sopwith Pup

        Likely to sell for £150-200 GBP on eBay.

        With kind regards,

        Bob

          Excellent - many thanks - it's lovely to have the historical info. Hopefully someone on ebay with an appreciation of such matters will buy it.
