  • 94th FS hub aircraft or vehicle?

I bought this hub or differential cover yesterday at the estate sale of Charlie Macgill, a highly decorated WW II bomber pilot. One of the people in attendance had known Charlie and said that he collected aviation memorabilia including propellers. There were no propellers at the auction. I recognized the unit emblem on the hub but don't know anything more about it. It is a 10 bolt hub/cover with a drain plug, approx 11.5 inches in diameter, approx 3 3/4 inches deep. Any idea?

update: Feb 18. Mr. Marc Sammis, Curator of the US Army Transportation Museum postively identifed the cover as coming from a 1920s Rickenbacker Automobile. Seems Eddie Rickenbacker founded a car company and produced very innovative automobile for several years. With this info, I was able to find a website devoted to the Rickenbacker Automobile and it contained images of a similar cover during the restoration process.

Thanks to everyone who took the item to look and ponder about this item. Dan
