  • Affixing metal Sheathing

    Hi All,
I'll wondering how the metal sheathing was attached. I've heard it was through rivets or screws that were then soldered and polished down. That seems to jive with the photos I've seen, as well. But, I'm wanting to verify that the rivets/screws were countersunk. That would require a couple of extra steps for countersinking the wood and then the metal. Also, was there some approach to figuring out the spacing of the fasteners. Some of the photos I've seen looked pretty haphazard. I have no illusions, of course, about putting my experiments on anything that turns: strictly display and education. Thanks for any input that anyone can provide.

    Metal Sheathing

I just joined this forum but I'll answer the question posted a year ago.

The protective metal on the props is attached with counter sunk wooden screws up to the point on the tip of the prop where it becomes to thin to use screws. Rivets are then used and usually hand set with a hammer and a bucking bar. The screws and rivet heads are then covered with solder and sanded flush with the sheathing.
