  • Which Sensenich for C-85 w/O-200 crankshaft?

This question has probably been asked but my search of the site came up without the answer.

I am re-powering my Piper PA-15 Vagabond. The new engine will be a Continental C-85 with the O-200 crankshaft STC. This engine no longer produces 85 hp. With the O-200 crank, rods, and pistons, plus flow matching, the horsepower will be over 100.

I've spent time looking at the Sensenich site, and found that the standard prop for a C-85 is the 72GK44. I'm wondering if I should go for something with more pitch. ie 46 or even 48.

My main question is this. If the airplane has the correct prop should the engine turn right at redline RPM (2550) with full throttle, in level flight. Also what should static RPM be?

    Thanks,

    Ed

Your going to be looking at about a 74-50 in a Sensenich. You should really contact Sensenich direct as they will be your best resource. I am restoring a PA-17 with a A-65 Continental and will be using a Flottorp 72-48. In a Sensenich because of the difference in the way the pitch is measured would be a 72-44 or 72-46.
Good luck. I hope your machanic doesn't have any problems getting the 337 for the engine change done.

      re: Sensenich prop

Thank you Bob. I agree, the 72GK46 looks like the best choice , and that's what I decided to order.

Dream Machines likes to put the 42" pitch prop on his installations which give both great climb and increased cruise. but I do think the 72GK46 will work better for me.
