The company was located in Bleicherode in the Southern uplands of the Harz Mountains and made propellers designed by Herr Professor Doktor Rahtjen, the company name represented by the letters BFI to the centre of their decal.
Dr Rahtjen made propellers from at least 1911 in his own right. Idflieg records BFI on 8 February 1918, June 1918 and 31 August 1918. I only have records of four props, which also suggests a limited output. It is possible that BFI were recruited late in the war to make props to Dr Rahtjen’s design.
The workshop at Bleicherode was quite large at 150m x 20m and employed 268 people. In addition to propellers, aircraft wings were made. Two of the known props were made entirely of pine and both are from late in the war.

The diameter, pitch and low engine power suggest an early training aircraft or a Taube.
