    Need help with identifying half propeller please... Thanks

    Hello
    Obviously I am new to the site. I recently purchased a storage bin at an auction and in it was two propellers. Both wooden, but the funny thing is that they are only half and they look like they screwed into something and not one long piece. I have pictures on my phone if anyone has any ideas what or how old they are I would greatly appreciate it. I can send you pics to email also.. Thanks again I hope someone can help....

    Welcome to the forum. We'll need photographs. And details of any data stamped on the blade roots, usually in quite a small size on metal parts of the blade root.

        Thanks for the photos.

        I think it is British from WW2 made of compressed birch probably, impregnated under pressure with resin. It was a blade from a variable pitch prop. A metal sleeve fitted around the wooden root which held the gearing.

            Your two blades have little value. Much of their value has been stripped away with the original black resin finish and with the loss of the steel sleeve over the blade stem, which had data stamped on it to identify the prop type and hence the aircraft to which it was fitted.

            One has sheathing on the leading edge of the blade; the other hasn't. This might be intentional or because one has been removed.

            If offered at auction here in the UK, they might make £50-£70 GBP, about $100 USD.
